Quebec’s ministry of Health and Social Services has announced that a patient in the Lanaudière region has undergone tests for the Ebola virus.
The patient, who has not been identified, recently returned from one of the West African countries impacted by the deadly virus and began exhibiting possible symptoms.
The results of the tests are now pending, the ministry said. The ministry said the patient is at low risk of having Ebola. Five other potential cases were recorded in Quebec in recent months. All of them ended up being false alarms.
Ebola spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected patient. It has killed over 8,600 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since the West African outbreak began last year.
