The measles outbreak in the Lanaudière region is over, local public health officials announced Friday.
Since January, a total of 159 cases were reported in nine municipalities and at three CLSCs. Not all of the patients were vaccinated against the disease.
With the exception of three cases, the rest were members of the same community in which the number of people vaccinated was very low.
Among people who got measles, 14 were hospitalized and 19 suffered complications. Of these, five developed pneumonia.
No deaths were recorded.
Although the outbreak is over, health officials reiterated that vaccination remains the best protection against this highly contagious disease, which can cause severe symptoms and hospitalization.
The public can get vaccinated at their local CLSC.
