UPDATE Sept. 9, 2014: The man in this story has tested negative for Ebola.

MONTREAL — A man who became sick on a flight from West Africa to Montreal is in isolation at Notre-Dame Hospital pending testing for Ebola.

The man, who reportedly began vomiting on the plane from Guinea, was whisked to the hospital at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, where an intensive-care unit to deal with the deadly and highly contagious disease has been set up.

The National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg is doing the testing, and results will be available later Monday.

Notre-Dame is one of two Montreal hospitals designated to deal with suspected Ebola cases. Children suspected of carrying the disease will be treated at Ste-Justine hospital.

Last month, two Montreal patients whose symptoms raised red flags tested negative for Ebola.

Marie-France Coutu, a spokesperson for the Quebec health and social services department, said it takes between 12 and 24 hours to get results of the lab tests.
